Ross Schumer, MD

Dr. Ross Schumer is a dual fellowship-trained orthopedic sports medicine surgeon at UCHealth Orthopedics in Colorado Springs. He specializes in joint preservation to include cartilage repair, ligament repair & reconstruction, meniscus surgery, shoulder replacements, shoulder stabilization, ankle arthroscopy, ankle stabilization, rotator cuff repair, and arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction.

Growing up on the sidelines as the son of a high school football coach and a multi-sport athlete, he developed a passion for sports and competition. While playing Division 1 lacrosse at the United States Air Force Academy, he sustained several of his own injuries resulting in three surgeries during his four academy years. Despite the setbacks of injury, surgery and rehabilitation, this experience sparked his journey into orthopedic surgery.

Dr. Schumer takes immense care and pride in treating some of our nation’s most elite warriors and athletes. He joined UCHealth in 2021 with over a decade of experience taking care of active and retired members of our military and their families. After retiring from the Air Force, he continues his service as a volunteer team physician for the Air Force Academy NCAA Division 1 ice hockey team.

Dr. Schumer takes leadership and volunteerism to the next level by providing team sports coverage at numerous local area high schools, the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs (UCCS) and the Air Force Academy. He has deployed on several combat and humanitarian missions. He is labeled as one of the best by his patients!
