Kent Ellington, MD

Dr. Ellington is the Medical Director of the Foot and Ankle Institute at OrthoCarolina and serves as Clinical Faculty in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Atrium Health – Carolinas Medical Center. An award-winning surgeon with over 20 years of research experience and 18 approved patents, he is also an Associate Professor of Orthopaedics at Atrium and an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Biology at UNC Charlotte. His work centers on the research and design of orthopedic implants and the development of novel technology, and he is a leader in advanced surgical techniques used in the United States and internationally. He is active in teaching orthopedic residents and fellows and lectures regionally, nationally, and internationally, and he serves as a reviewer for Techniques in Foot & Ankle Surgery, Foot and Ankle International, and the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He was selected to the Board of Directors of the Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Foundation, a charity focused on education and humanitarian efforts, and also sits on the boards of the OrthoCarolina Foundation, the OrthoCarolina Research Institute (OCRI), and Mallard Creek Surgery Center, along with the OCRI Research Advisory Committee and the OrthoCarolina Operations Committee. He serves as team physician for UNC Charlotte, Stewart-Haas Racing, Wingate University, and Johnson C. Smith University.
