Dr. Smith is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in foot and ankle surgery and reconstruction. During his training, Dr. Smith pursued advanced coursework in limb preservation and deformity correction, even developing a program at his fellowship that is still in use today on such topics. He has a particular interest in soft tissue balancing, tendon reconstruction, and minimally invasive techniques. He provides comprehensive foot and ankle care. His patient care philosophy emphasizes a holistic, non-operative approach when possible, including ortho-biologic treatments, nutrition, and integrative medical solutions including hormones. He describes his role as not just the carpenter to your problem but the architect for a complete solution. Dr. Smith has authored over 40 peer-reviewed articles and numerous chapters in the top orthopedic foot ankle journals and textbooks in the world. A respected international speaker, he has lectured in more than a dozen countries and is active in major professional organizations such as AOFAS, AAOS, and ACFAS. His current research includes forefoot deformities such as hallux valgus (bunions), and all associated deformities related to these areas, as well as total ankle replacement and revision.
In his free time, Dr. Smith enjoys being with his amazing wife, who is an ophthalmologist, and his two awesome boys. He loves outdoor adventures such as mountain biking and snowboarding, as well as numerous outdoor pursuits.
