Clay Shumway, DPM
Dr. Clay B. Shumway is a board qualified foot and ankle surgeon. He trained in the most advanced surgical and nonsurgical treatments available today.
Dr. Shumway has completed his fellowship at the prestigious Pennsylvania Intensive Lower Extremity Fellowship in Philadelphia, PA where he worked in a high surgical volume orthopedic group. There he performed cases including cavus foot reconstruction, pediatrics, sports medicine, and complex revision cases.
Dr. Shumway utilizes the most advanced sports medicine techniques including arthroscopic lateral ankle stabilization, cartilage replacement, and arthroscopic syndesmotic repair. During fellowship, he had a focus on total ankle replacement which relatively few surgeons have experience in today.
During residency, Dr. Shumway trained with a national leader in the foot and ankle community, Lawrence A. DiDomenico. There he was trained in complex foot and ankle reconstructive surgery with extensive exposure to Charcot reconstruction, trauma at a level 1 trauma center, and advanced orthoplastic flap techniques including rotational flaps (with world-renowned surgeon Dr. Edguardo Rodriguez), pedical flaps, and split-thickness skin grafts.
Though trained in the most advanced surgical techniques, Dr. Shumway only recommends surgery when indicated and believes there are many conditions that can be alleviated with conservative treatment.
Dr. Shumway has a passion for education. He believes in giving back to the medical field and the local community. He has demonstrated this through authoring journal articles, presenting at national and local meetings, participating in local training programs, and continuing his education and training through an academic fellowship.
He plans to continue educating future physicians through workshops, shadowing, and presenting at local and national meetings. Dr. Shumway contributes to our mission to provide the most current, compassionate, and comprehensive care to our patients.
When not working, Dr. Shumway enjoys shooting sporting clays, weight lifting, riding dirt bikes, and camping. He has 4 young children and enjoys spending time with his family as much as possible. He is from Norman, Oklahoma and is a big fan of the Sooners football team. BOOMER SOONER!
