Joe Southerland, DPM

With over two decades of dedicated service in podiatric surgery, Dr. Joe T. Southerland, DPM, stands as a pillar of expertise in North Georgia. His career began in Athens, Georgia, where he earned dual degrees in pharmacy and chemistry from the esteemed University of Georgia. Following his undergraduate studies, he pursued his passion for healing by obtaining his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree from Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida.

Dr. Southerland further honed his skills through a rigorous three year residency in podiatric surgery at Northlake Regional Medical Center in Tucker, Georgia. Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Southerland has made significant contributions to the field through his commitment to education. His international teaching endeavors in Australia earned him recognition and the prestigious title of honorary Fellow of the Australasian College of Podiatric Surgeons.

As a fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, Dr. Southerland remains at the forefront of advancements in podiatric care, utilizing state-of-the-art technologies to ensure optimal patient outcomes. His leadership roles, including chairmanship of the Podiatry Institute’s Board of Directors and chief editorship of McGlamry’s Comprehensive Textbook of Foot and Ankle Surgery, underscore his dedication to advancing the field.

Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Southerland is known for his warmth and empathy, providing bilingual care to his Spanish-speaking patients. Outside of the office, he finds joy in spending quality time with his wife, Kimberly, and their two children. An avid golfer and cyclist, Dr. Southerland embraces a well-rounded lifestyle that mirrors his holistic approach to patient care.
